Trade PA gets HMRC production access for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
A step towards bringing Income Tax quarterly updates into the same app you use for jobs, invoices and expenses.
HMRC has granted Trade PA production access for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax and confirmed that our fraud-prevention checks have passed. This gives our Income Tax integration access to HMRC’s live service.
Where we are today
Production access has been granted. We are completing the customer connection and release checks before enabling live quarterly updates. Quarterly filing is not yet generally available in Trade PA.
Why this matters for a trade business
Your working day already produces the records you need to understand your business: customer invoices, merchant receipts, mileage and payments. Keeping them together makes it easier to spot missing paperwork and give your accountant a clear picture.
Our aim is to connect those everyday records to the quarterly review, so you can check the figures in the place where you already manage the work. Production access is an important step towards that workflow.
What the first release will cover
We are preparing the first release for a single self-employment business using cash basis accounting. The planned workflow lets you connect through HMRC, view the deadlines HMRC returns, review cumulative income and expenses, and approve a quarterly update yourself.
Missing payment dates and uncategorised expenses need to be resolved before figures are sent. A submission record will retain the figures and HMRC’s response. Nothing is filed automatically.
How quarterly updates work
Quarterly updates are summaries of business income and expenses, rather than annual tax returns. Each update covers the tax year to date. For standard periods, the second update covers 6 April to 5 October, with a 7 November deadline.
HMRC explains the periods and deadlines in its quarterly-update guidance. Check your own HMRC obligations and the accounting basis you use with your accountant.
Where Eve fits in
Eve helps with the everyday admin behind those records, including logging expenses and mileage. You still check what has been recorded. The Income Tax review is a separate step: Eve will not file a tax update on your behalf.

What is separate
- Year-end filing: the first release covers quarterly updates only. You will need your accountant or other compatible software to complete your annual tax return.
- VAT and CIS filing: these services are not included in this Income Tax approval. They will follow their own approval and release process.
- The HMRC trademark: we have requested permission to use the approved MTD trademark. We will add the authorised logo only once permission and the usage rules arrive.
What you can do now
Keep your records up to date, match payments to invoices, and retain receipts and CIS statements. Resolve gaps with your accountant before a deadline. Continue using your existing filing arrangement until Trade PA confirms that quarterly updates are available for your account.
We will keep the Income Tax status page updated as the rollout progresses. If you have a question about the release, contact support@tradespa.co.uk.
